Old windmills are everywhere in northern Belgium, making for a historic and picturesque drive across the countryside.

The central Italian province of Tuscany is perhaps the country's most famous, both for its incredible history and its iconic, panoramic landscapes. Here are a few of our favorite out-of-the-way places that we've found over the years, full of art, history, architecture, food, and beautiful landscapes... but not full of tourists.

When travelers to Italy hear the word "museum", we typically think of walking along velvet rope-lines through hallways on old tile floors, admiring paintings, sculpture, and other artwork and artifacts from throughout history. But a stuffed alligator? Lakota moccasins? Salami? A 150-year-old shovel? Here is a list of some of our favorite museums in Italy - you probably didn't learn about most of this stuff in Art History 101.
